How to Classify BIM Model Elements Right in the Browser
Classification in the browser means assigning classes to BIM model elements directly in the BEEMESTA web interface, without Revit or extra software. The class determines which formula an element is costed with: until an element has a class, it costs nothing. Select elements in “Project model”, click “Classify” — and the class formulas are applied in the report.
How do I classify model elements in the browser?
Open “Project model”, select the elements you need — even hundreds at a time — and click “Classify”. The dialog shows how many elements are selected; all that’s left is to pick a class from the project’s BIM model classification and apply it to all of them at once, instead of assigning a class to each element individually.
You don’t need to create a report for this: sort the model into classes first and calculate the money later. Every change to classes and tags goes into the model’s “History” tab, where it can be filtered by user and change type.
The “Classified” and “Unclassified” counters: is the model ready for an estimate?
The “Classified” and “Unclassified” counters are the quickest check of whether a model is ready for estimating. Until the second one is close to zero, the estimate will be incomplete: an element without a class has no formula, and therefore no resources and no cost.
The “Unclassified” filter shows exactly the elements that still need a class. If an element’s class is deleted from the classifier, the element is marked “Class removed” and is excluded from the estimate until it is classified again.
Which elements can be classified, and what reaches the report
Only elements with an IFC GlobalId — the element’s persistent identifier in the IFC file — can be classified. If the system refuses, this is almost always the reason: the element came from the model without an identifier, and it is marked “no GlobalId” in the element table. The chosen class must also belong to the project’s classification.
After classification, the class formulas are applied in the report automatically: a formula defines which products, materials, works and machinery are needed per unit of the element, and quantities come from the element’s own parameters. There’s no need to build the classifier and formulas from scratch — BEEMESTA ships a ready-made BIM classification and formula catalog.
